My Home Office (and Pepper’s Favorite Napping Spot)

Between my blog and being a part of The Clever Crew, most people don’t know I also work part-time as a speech-language pathologist doing teletherapy with schools. It’s a role that lives entirely at my home office desk — and over the last few years, I’ve slowly curated a setup that’s made my days far more comfortable and efficient. A few pieces are brand new additions for this school year.
Transitioning to working from home can feel overwhelming, so I’ve broken everything down by category to make it easier to shop for exactly what you need.

Core Tech Setup
The foundation of any teletherapy day — a computer that can keep up, screens that let you multitask, and audio that sounds clear on both ends of the call.
MacBook Air 15″, 24GB
♥ What We Love
- I upgraded from a 2020 MacBook Air 13 this year and it’s been a great decision — I no longer worry about running out of memory.
- Lets me connect multiple monitors so I can Zoom with a client, take notes on another screen, and keep two other apps ready to switch to when a young client is losing focus.
QQH 15.6″ Laptop Screen Extender — Ultra-Slim Triple Portable Monitor
♥ What We Love
- This is one of my most important daily tools. Upgrading to the MacBook Air 15 finally let me run more than one extra monitor, and this is the setup I chose — a stand that sits behind the laptop with both monitors extending outward from the sides.
- My laptop never touches the stand, so there’s no worry about overheating. Sets up easily with a USB-C cable and thumb drive, and works on MacOS, Windows, and Android. As anyone who works or games knows — you can never have too many monitors. I can’t wait to put it to use once school starts back up.
AirPods 4
♥ What We Love
- I originally had a pricier pair of AirPod Pro earbuds, but Pepper decided they made a tasty snack. These were the budget-friendly replacement.
- Honestly, I couldn’t tell a difference in quality — they work great for my needs now.
Bose QuietComfort Headphones
♥ What We Love
- For my first two years working from home, I used these — earbuds became uncomfortable for all-day wear, so a good over-the-ear pair made a real difference.
- Wireless, noise cancelling, and a good mic — all important for teletherapy if you’re wearing headphones for hours at a time.
Desk & Ergonomics
Long hours at a desk add up fast — these are the pieces that keep my body as comfortable as my workflow.
Monomi Electric Height Adjustable Standing Desk
♥ What We Love
- This is the desk I use daily — a handy remote on the front edge makes it easy to operate.
- Being able to stretch your legs and stand every now and then makes a real difference. Believe me, your back will thank you!
Ergonomic Office Chair
♥ What We Love
- A good chair is one of the most important things in a home office setup.
- Lumbar support is essential for long hours in front of a computer — this one delivers.
Simple Housewares Laptop Stand
♥ What We Love
- 11 adjustments, which matters both for keeping your laptop from overheating and for finding a comfortable viewing angle during long work hours.
- This is the one I actually use every day.
Adjustable Tablet Stand
♥ What We Love
- You can never have enough screens — I use this to prop up my iPad alongside my older MacBook Air 13.
- Perfect for when I travel or decide to work from a café or the library.
Teletherapy Tools
These two are specific to working with young clients online — real problem-solvers for keeping sessions organized and engaging.
Multifunction Monitor Memo Board
♥ What We Love
- This has been a lifesaver. It attaches to the end of a monitor — I use it on my older, larger monitor.
- I keep post-its on it with one side for dates and meetings and the other for quick references I need — very handy.
USB Document Camera for Teachers (or Extra Webcam)
♥ What We Love
- Another handy item if you work with kids. I use it often with preschoolers to model an AAC communication board or do a fun language activity, like sequencing or building a Play-Doh animal — usually paired with a YouTube video.
- Useful for showing diagrams (tongue and mouth positioning, in my case), books, puppets, documents, and more. It automatically reverses the image so it’s not backwards for the person on the other end of the call.
Lighting
Good lighting matters more than people realize — both for how you look on camera and for reducing eye strain over a long day.
Hanaking Floor Lamp
♥ What We Love
- Multiple settings, adjustable height, and a handy remote.
- Lighting is important, and this one fits the bill.
LED Desk Lamp with Clamp
♥ What We Love
- Attaches easily to any desk, with a wide, bright light and a gooseneck that adjusts for wide viewing or intricate close-up work.
- This one’s not in my setup photo because my husband confiscated it for his jewelry-making desk — I’m plotting to get it back.
Smart Display
A nice touch that pulls double duty as both a work tool and a way to decompress between sessions.
Echo Show 15, Full HD
♥ What We Love
- Functions as a calendar showing upcoming meetings, and as a TV.
- Nice to check the news of the day muted in the background, or listen to a podcast at the end of the day while finishing paperwork or planning for tomorrow.
Desk Stand for Echo Show
♥ What We Love
- I didn’t want to mount the Echo Show on the wall, so I picked this up instead — works great.
- You can see both the Echo Show and this stand together in my home setup photo above.
Coffee & Comfort
Mug Warmer with Temperature Display
♥ What We Love
- This is where my morning coffee goes — and sometimes many refills after.
- Would also make a great gift for anyone who works at a desk.
Bonus: For Unwinding After a Long Day
This one’s not part of the desk setup, but it’s earned its place on this list.
Bob and Brad Eye Massager with Heat and Cooling
♥ What We Love
- I bought this on a whim, and honestly, it’s great to use while resting in bed after a stressful day.
- Helps calm my mind, eases sinus headaches, and leads to a better night’s sleep — so I’m ready to do it all again the next day.
Pepper supervised this entire setup from her bed under the desk — right up until the AirPods incident.
Pepper says: “In my defense, they were left within reach. That’s basically an invitation.” 🐾
